Applicants should have a Ph.D. inmathematics or related areas, good research credentials and a strong commitment toteaching. The regular teaching load consists of eight hours per week distributed amongbasic courses (for example linear algebra, calculus) and courses related to themathematical curriculum, at undergraduate and graduate level. After one year, thecandidate is expected to participate in some administrative activities. PUC-RIO providesexcellent working conditions: a well located and pleasant campus, good students,research grants, a solid retirement plan, health insurance, and salary increments relatedto age and performance. The monthly salary for the Assistant Professor, as of 2018, isR$11980.75, 13 salaries per year.
